why I would've vote no to Prop 8
Saying that gays deserve the same rights as heterosexual couples is only the surface problem. The fact is that all people deserve equal rights. Singles are the ones being discriminated against. If a single person could get the same government rights as a married couple then gay marriage would be non-issue. I just recently got married and because of this I can see just how much more I was paying for insurance & taxes as a single person.
There were two elderly sisters that shared a home in our community for years. One recently died and the other was slammed with Estate taxes. Gay marriage would not have helped them, but giving all citizen's the right to give their home's or personal property to anyone of their choosing without causing them a tax burden would remedy this problem. Changing tax laws and making it illegal for other institutions to treat singles different then married couples is what this country should be focusing on.
In other words, Government needs to get out of the business of marriage altogether. Personally, I think conservative America doesn't care if two consenting adults want to share a life and home together or have a ceremony and party to recognize their commitment together.
In my opinion those who oppose gay marriage typically oppose it because of their religious beliefs. They do not want the term marriage to be altered. However, everyone should agree that all citizens should be taxed and treated fairly in any type of relationship they are in.

Personally I oppose gay marriage for other reasons. I have no objection to a civil ceremony because I think that it’s necessary for property resolution when there is a split or death. A marriage on the other hand is one of the few things remaining in this world that should remain untouched. I don’t want this to be overturned because then if some idiot decides he wants to marry his 13 year old cousin he can then claim discrimination and use this as his case law. Where would it end?
