Do I have to be registered to use the community center?
Yes, if you want to post messages within the TV Guide.com community. To register, just click "Register" and fill in the appropriate information.
How do I login?
First, click "Log in." Then enter your name and password. NOTE: Both fields are case-sensitive; capitalization, spaces, etc. are also important. If you would like to be automatically logged in whenever you visit, click the checkbox next to "Remember Me." (Cookies must be enabled for this feature to work.)
What do I do if I forgot my password?
To reset your password, first click "Login/Register" and then "I forgot my password." Follow the directions in the e-mail that is sent to the address you entered when you first registered.
What is a blog?
Blog is short for weblog. They're frequently updated journals intended for public consumption that represent the author's personality. To start your own, go to "My Profile" and click "Create My Blog."
What are comments?
The comments link at the bottom of each blog allows readers to comment on your blog's content.
What is a profile?
Profiles are where you can tell other community members about yourself. It's a great way to let other people know about the TV shows and movies you most like to watch along with revealing something about your personality. In addition, your profile displays your current contributions to the community.
What is a "Friends List"?
A friends list gives you an easy way to keep tabs on your favorite community members. To add a friend, just click on a member's name and look for the "add to friends list" link. This will allow you to send a message to the community member, inviting them to be a friend of yours.
What are "My Messages"?
Community members can send and receive private messages to other community members. You'll know you have new messages to read if you see a little envelope icon near the My Messages link. Just click on the link and you'll be able to read or send your own messages. You can even keep an address book filled with your TV Guide.com friends.
How do I send a message?
Go to My Messages and click "Compose Message." Type the member's username in the "To" box, enter your subject, type your message in the large text box, and click "Send." Or, go to the member's profile and click the "Send Message to Member" link.
How do I search the community?
On the top of the right side of many community pages, you'll see a box labeled "Search." You can search by specific member name, blog titles, and more.
What does subscribe mean?
A subscription notifies you via e-mail when a content area that interests you is updated. Similarly, you can subscribe to any content added by a specific member.
To add an item to your subscriptions list, click "Subscribe" at the top of the page. Clicking on "Unsubscribe" ends the subscription (and cancels the e-mail notifications you may have set). After 30 days, inactive subscriptions automatically expire (unless you elect to cancel the expiration in your subscriptions list in your Preferences). To see your current list of subscriptions, click "My Subscriptions." Click "My Preferences" to change or update how often your receive e-mail notification on each of your subscriptions.
What does "E-mail to Friend" do?
You can send anyone a link to a particular message by clicking "E-mail to Friend" and entering the information as indicated.
How can I format the text of my posts, replies and comments?
To format text (bold, italics, underline, etc.), you can use the format buttons in the posting view. Type your message and then highlight the word(s) you want to format; then click the appropriate button. To insert a smiley face, first click the smiley button and then the expression you want to use.
How do I check the spelling of my posts, replies and comments?
To check your text for proper spelling, click Spell Check on the post screen. If our Spell Check dictionary doesn't recognize a word in your text, the unknown word will appear in a box. When you finish checking your text, click Post Message to save your changes and post the text with your spelling corrections. If you want to continue editing text, click Go Back or Edit to return to the posting area.
What are RSS feeds?
RSS is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary. RSS is a technology that grabs information from your favorite websites and places summaries or headlines from those sites into a tool for you to review. Right-click the symbol (click and hold for Macs), and select "copy shortcut" from the drop-down menu. You can then either "paste" or use the keystroke "Ctrl-V" to put the necessary link into the "subscribe" field of your newsreader. Be sure to read the directions that come with your reader for more information.
