The Closer: Couples' Angst
Or perhaps this blog should be titled, “Oops I did it again”! As in Brenda’s failure to see that sometimes you have to give up something good to gain something better. I was just as hopping mad at Brenda as Fritzy. I’d bet his statement about her putting his job in jeopardy didn’t even register with her. And it is a sorrowful revelation when you can push your man not into the open arms of a grateful-to-have-a-decent-man woman, or even the bottle, but push him to calling his sponsor!!!
Whatz up wid that, Girlfriend!!!
Perhaps its time for Daniels and Brenda to have a good old fashion “Girls nite out”. I’d bet it would do them both a world of good, as it appears Gabriel is the one still harboring feeling for an unresponsive Daniel. Or maybe its time for Miss Bunny to make a reappearance and remind to her daughter of the benefits of having a good man by your side.
**sidebar**
By a show of hands, how many of you would have eavesdropped on that heated conversation between Gab-Dan in the interrogation room as Provenza did? That was so typical Provenza! And he always seems able to persuade the tech-guy to follow suit.
Brenda and the PHD crew are called to the scene of a body lying in an alley. Ok, what’s so unusual about that to warrant the Big Dogs? This body has a wire on it, as in surveillance wiring. The LAPD doesn’t have a clue who this guy is and to make matters worse, the reporter (Dick Tracy wannabee) given access to the LAPD, is the one who discovers the body.
Leapfrogging over the usual Flynn/Provenza cut ups and the tension/blowup scene between Gab-Dan, Brenda proceeds in finding the murderer. Instead of having Gabriel by her side, she calls for a surprised Lt. Tao to accompany her to the victim’s home to speak with his wife. The victim was involved in some shady drug dealings and his murder is captured on video, although the murder’s face is hidden. There is of course a clue, well two clues, the murderer was wearing a splashy garish (by Flynn’s standards) ring and “Dick Tracy” tampered with the crime scene.
**sidebar**
Again, by a show of hands, how many of you expected to hear a sudden screech of brakes with Brenda peeling away while Tao stares at the puff of smoke trailing her, this after asking a simple question and getting a nauseating never-ending answer! I am sure his fish at home tries to commit suicide by leaping out the bowl. Just kidding. I can only take him in small doses.
Brenda solicits Fritz help in determining why the victim was wearing a wire. At the FBI department, she is given privy to sensitive information as she and Fritz makes a deal for the FBI to take over the case from PHD because they have a bigger drug fish to fry (sorry) than this simple murderer.
The show is called The Closer and closing this case is all Brenda cares about. She is having difficulty honoring her deal with Fritz and begins to make, in my opinion, bad choices. This seems to be a pattern with her. She will do almost anything or say anything to get her man and close her case. She convinces “Garish-ring-wearer”, that the FBI cannot give him the necessary protection from "Big Drug Fish guy" and he would be better off in prison for murder for the rest of his life. Knowing that a seething Fritz is waiting outside of the interrogation room to talk with this guy doesn’t phase her in the least. Did you notice how Brenda couldn’t even look Fritz in the eyes while handing him back the “FBI Black book?
If Miss Brenda Leigh continues to act like Fritz is doing her a favor by being in a relationship, she and Daniels will have time for more than one Girls Nite out!
There were plenty of snark bites last night. What were some of your favorites?
(sorry I missed all the fun here yesterday)

Wow Rev! This was one of the best reviews and recaps. I was trying to think what you didn't cover and I'm coming up with nothing. Of course, I do have some opinions though.
SHAME ON BRENDA! Fritz should have taken over his knee and spanked her silly! Where is Miss Bunny when you need her? I'm still so mad I could spit!
SHAME ON FRITZ! He already knows what Brenda buttons he can't push and if he was trying to test her, well, he found out that he does come in second to her job. And that is just plain sad. The look on his face almost made me cry. Wonder where they'll take this next?
SHAME ON PROVENZA AND BUZZ! But I would TOTALLY have joined them in listening to the argument between Daniels and Gabriel. And I would have brought the Root Beer for the popcorn.
SHAME ON CHIEF POPE! For obviously enjoying the tension between his former girlfriend and our favorite LA FBI guy. ('Cause, you know, I have a favorite FBI guy in DC, too.) But the look on his face was priceless as he was standing outside the interrogation room. hee hee
SHAME ON DANIELS AND GABRIEL! For bringing their drama into the workplace. And for disappointing me because I was looking forward to some fun Gabriel/Daniels moments, not angsty ones. There was already too much angst from Brenda and Fritz, thank you very much.
Brenda reminds me of a little rhyme my Nana used to say to me:
There was a little girl With a little curl Right in the middle of her forehead And when she was good She was very, very good And when she was bad She was horrid!
Sometimes I love her and sometimes I could strangle her. But, hey, it's a heck of a ride, isn't it?

This episode almost had a Mr. and Mrs. Smith feel to it. One of these days Brenda and Fritz are going to break out the handguns and this little union of police and FBI will be going ballistic!
Fritz was right when he told Brenda that the bad part was she wasn't even aware that she did anything wrong. Anything to get her man is going to end up making her lose her man! Brenda has a great body, she is very smart and at times very caring - BUT THIS GIRL WOULD DRIVE ME CRAZY!
It was great to see Hurk from Friday Night Lights who played the bad guy. He did a great job, but was no match for Brenda! I want to know what happenend between Gabriel and Daniels. I am not happy with Gabriel's behavior and was glad to see Brenda hand him the transfer form - he did not expect that!
Great blog REV! Next week's episode looks like it will be Provenza-centric which is a great thing!

Ha, that's funny Ranger! I didn't think of the Mr. and Mrs. Smith aspect. Maybe a great big knockdown drag-out fight with kitchen cutlery and guns might release the steam. Of course, they would lose their deposit on the house rent.

Hi Vee,
I just wanted to stop by and say "Hi", and ask "How are you feeling?"
You're still on my prayer list. I'm so happy that you're back to blogging again. We've missed you so much around here. Now, everything's right with our TV Guide World.

Wow Rev! This was one of the best reviews and recaps
Hi Kath and thanks. I’m never happy with my blogs. They always seem so incomplete by other bloggers' standards.
First a big *LOL on your comments. Your “spank her” line reminded me of Miss Celie advising Harpo to “beat” Sofia from The Color Purple! Tee-Hee. Basically, we’re all still in kindergarten, pulling one another’s hair!
I would TOTALLY have joined them in listening to the argument between Daniels and Gabriel. And I would have brought the Root Beer for the popcorn.
*said almost shamefacedly* I am so there with you! Gasp!!
SHAME ON CHIEF POPE! For obviously enjoying the tension between his former girlfriend and our favorite LA FBI guy
You get the feeling Pope is biding his time to swoop in on a vulnerable Brenda, when and I do mean when, she and Fritz separate.
I want the writers to give Pope more to do than lurking? It seems in every episode he is stupefied about what Brenda is doing and why. Catch up man, we the audience got it and we’re in bed wearing pajamas!
SHAME ON DANIELS AND GABRIEL! For bringing their drama into the workplace. And for disappointing me because I was looking forward to some fun Gabriel/Daniels moments, not angsty ones
I am SO there with you about that. I thought Daniels chiding him in front of the squad was immature, but he brought it on himself by annoying her to distractions. I wonder if Sanchez will pull a “Pope” and sneak in there?
She was very, very good And when she was bad She was horrid
Nana’s are so smart, aren’t they!
One of these days Brenda and Fritz are going to break out the handguns and this little union of police and FBI will be going ballistic!
Yikes Ranger! We’ve gone from spanking to pull guns! When can you pick me up?! **lol**
Anything to get her man is going to end up making her lose her man!
That is exactly what I am afraid of. The woman is going through the trash contemplating eating a formally discarded candy bar …and she has a man!!!! What the heck is she going to do without a man?
I’m glad you mentioned Gabriel requesting that DANIEL be transferred. Excuse me Brother!!???!! Talk about hand-to-hand combat… I would had slapped him silly. And was that suppose to be some magnanimous gesture Gabriel made in “conveniently” leaving the transfer paper on his desk out in the open with HIS name on it instead of Daniels. I was glad she called him on it!
I didn’t see the previews for next week’s show but if it is Provenza-centric, the zingers will be a-flying.
Great blog REV
Thanks Ranger, I appreicate that!

Another terrific Closer Blog, Rev, and it's great to see you "out and about!"
The only thing I can add is that I agree with your “Oops I did it again”! comment 100%! It drives me nuts when I see flawed but well rounded and basically decent characters who do not or refuse to learn from their mistakes- or even learn for the mistakes of other characters around them!! Well, I guess if many stars today can't learn from there peers in real life, can I really expect that on the screen? YES I CAN!!!
